Being credentialed in the state of Colorado:
The state of Colorado requires counseling applicants to log supervised clinical hours for licensure and certifications. The number of hours is unique to the credential you are seeking.
These requirements can be found on the Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) website: https://www.colorado.gov/dora
Choosing a clinical supervisor often occurs through word of mouth, which can be effective. Asking for references from past supervisees to gain a feel for a clinical supervisor is also helpful.
An important aspect of choosing a clinical supervisor is verifying his or her credentials.
The appropriate supervisor will have the same license or credentials that you are seeking, maintained his or her license for five years, supervised in the past, and engages in supervision specific continuing education.
Be sure to read the fine print!
Understanding the contents of a supervision contract is essential. Clinicians who are trained in supervision practices will have a supervision contract that clearly states the responsibilities and requirements for you and them.
The contract should allow the supervisor or supervisee to terminate with a 15-day notice. So, if you are not a good fit with the supervisor after all, you can seek a new supervisor.
I offer a variety of license and certification supervision services.
